Generally stones which are lesser than 5mm can be managed with medicines whereas that which is greater than 8mm may require some treatments like lithotripsy. The pain with stones vary in each person and the treatment will be based on the symptoms.

The stones which are in the upper pole of the kidney are easy to pass out while that in the lower pole will be difficult.
